blown engine?
blown engine?
alright, here's what happened...my car starts to overheat (but I didn't let it get into the red) and it begins to steam up and smoke. I stop the car, pop the hood, and get engulfed in steam &/or smoke. I'm hearing all of these snap, crackle, pop noises so I'm thinking that some of my electrical systems are about to catch on fire. Anyway, I grab a fire extinguisher and hose down my engine bay and the dry chemical compound stuff got onto my air cleaner, so I take a water hose and hose it off thinking, "hey, this is a k&n air filter, it'll be alright..." Then, I go to try and start it. It turns over with the normal sound a few times, but it chooses not to start. Then, the next time that I tried to crank it, it started sounding different...kinda like it was spinning around really fast without having any compression. I smell gasoline when I try to start it, and it's getting fire, so it can't be any of those. Oh well, any suggestions on an engine that it turning over, but not cranking up while sounding different?
As a starter pull the plugs and do the compression check. Also while there check and see if any water comes out when the plugs are removed. If your lucky its just flooded and the overheating that preceded it was due to thermostat? Huge water leak somewhere other than the internals of the engine? Gotta get it started first so do the compression check. If its reasonable clean and dry the plugs and try again. Here's a unflooding procedure from RP http://www.rx7.com/tech/unflood-fc.html
