Blown dimmer circuit in headlight switches? Post up!
Just looking for a show of hands. How many people do you know of that have damaged the dashboard dimmer control part of their headlight switch do to one or more of the following:
1.) Improper installation of aftermarket gauges (IE Autometer, VDO, etc... External but with illumination.) or gauge overlays (IE Indiglo, etc.)
2.) Improper installation of an aftermarket stereo that includes an illumination wire. (Orange on aftermarket stereos... Uses BOTH vertical pins in the 3 pin connector.)
3.) Using one of those pins on the 3 pin connector as the GROUND for your aftermarket stereo. (When the lights are off, that pin does show ground... It's misleading.)
4.) Any work in the shifter area whereafter the connection for the illumination of the automatic transmission shift indicator was used for something else. (This connector is left dangling on manual transmission cars... Some people connect it to stuff it shouldn't be connected to.)
I've had a couple switches come in like this and I'm wondering if this is more common than I think it is.
I may start adding an extra tap on my modified headlight switch harnesses for aftermarket/extra lighting for the interior.
