Blown coolant seal replacement

K, friend just bought a stupid clean s4 gxl n/a. The only problem is a blown coolant seal. Can someone provide me with a list of everything that we need to replace in the process of replacing the seal, and maybe even a list of where to get the parts?

You have to rebuild the motor and you won't know for sure what exactly you need to replace until you pull the engine and open it up...

If it's just the seals, which would be nice but usually isn't the case, you can get them from several vendors; I always go with Atkins Rotary, but there are many others: Rotary Aviation, Mazdatrix, Rotary Evolution, etc...

What you will find out when you open it up is the cause of the coolant seals failing. It's usually from overheating or from the coolant passages in the irons themselves failing, in which case you would need to replace the irons that have broken. You also need to make sure that the housings are still usable and not warped and that the bearings didn't overheat.

Basically, while you are there just replace everything. From my experience a "budget" rebuild isn't worth the 600 bucks you would save by not just going in and refreshing the whole engine.

Just the coolant seals:

86-88 N/A Rx7 O-Ring Kit (N326-10-S60)

Coolant seals and oil o-rings:

86-95 Rx7 O-Ring Kit (ARE116)

And what you may as well purchase just to ensure you won't be opening the engine again in three months:

86-88 N/A Rx7 "Master" Rebuild Kit

Source some nice condition used housing while you are at it....maybe an iron or two as well. Streetport!

Thank you for the info and links. I have a spare set of housings that are pristine I plan to sell him for the low should he need them. We plan a budget rebuild, but are prepared to do a full rebuild if necessary. Depends on what we find when we crack it open.

There's a lot you probably won't need in that master kit.. Check all your clearances via FSM and only order what you need.
