blown coolant seal
okay so i think i have come to terms on my car having a bad coolant seal and i say this because
-i have to top off the car with coolant every other day
-smokes on startup
-saw bubbles coming from the reservoir tank when warm/idling
it sucks because the motor has like 2-3k miles on it since the rebuild. i guess the seal went bad when i had a problem with the stock radiator and it overheated/blew a hose
now my questions are:
-what are the cons of driving the car like this (of course ill check the water level and top it off accordingly)?
-does this affect my idle? (because it has a choppy idle)
-does this cause hard startups? (i have to try cranking it lots of times and as soon as it fires up i have to play with the throttle to warm it up. same with a warm motor start except it doesnt take many tries just throttle play.
all help will be greatly appreciated

A blown coolant seal will definately mess with your idle, it will cause harder starts, embarrasing white smoke at startup, kills gas milage a bit, it can ultimately hurt your internals. Rotarys hate to be heated up too high, all it takes usually is overheating it once and its game over for the seals. They can only really take 225 ish max temp. I'd say save up about 150 to get a master gasket set and rebuild it again before your new rebuild isn't too new inside anymore. bummer man
ya thats a good idea i should get a compression test...so i can get a rebuild done just by spending $150? (of course im not including labor) since everything else is good.
^ If it's a really fresh rebuild then ya, you can re-use the old seals. But 2-3k miles is too much. You'll need to replace all the soft seals, which should cost a few hundred dollars just for parts. The hard seals like the apex seals can be re-used.
I don't think bad coolant seals affects compression, btw. www.aaroncake.net has a way to test your cooling system (including the seals). But it sounds like you do have bad coolant seals.
