blower motor not functioning

i'm having problems with the blower motor on my 88 se model, it doesn't want to come on. all the lights and position indicator lights work on the dash, however the OFF->MAX slider does nothing. the fuse for the blower motor is fine. i plugged a 12V power source up to the blower motor, and it works. there seems to be a harness hanging down from the wires that go to it, however it has more than just 2 wires and i do not see another harness for it to plug into. can anybody give me some suggestions on where to start diagnosing this problem?

Pull the motor out. It's just three small bolts on the bottom of the motor housing. Turn the motor by hand. If it does not rotate get another. If it will spin faily easy, then that's too bad.

IF that's the case, then put the motor back in. Now look for two relays. I believe it's the ROUND relay that you pull out and put aside. It has four wires in the socket. Blue/white, Green/Black, Red/Yellow, Blue/Yellow.

Jumper the Red/Yellow to the Blue/White. ONLY those two wire and no other combination is allowed.

Turn the key to ON. Fan slider to the right. Any distance to the right. The fan should turn, but it will be just one speed. High. No other speed available except putting the slider to the OFF position.

Lets say it spins now with the jumper. My Guess is the transistor is kaput. A gonner. **** up. It is located on the top area of the housing that the motor is installed into. Its on the FRONT side of that housing so you cannot access it without removing the whole fan housing. Not hard. Not real easy, but somewhat easy.

The other thing you can do is go to the series five manual and look in the a/c heating seciton of that manual and follow the step by step procedures for figuring out what is bad. The series four fsm isn't that good in this area. Done my deed for the day. Gone.
