Blower Motor Issue (Researched)
Here's the deal, my blower motor stopped and I can't seem to trace the issue. I've consulted the FSM and researched threads about the issue and I have a nagging feeling it's something else.
First off, I figured I'd take the fool proof route and replace both the blower and the logicon with ones I had in my parts rx-7 which I know worked before I removed them. To say the least that didn't work.
I've followed the trouble shooting for the blower in the FSM and I keep comming up with the same result. The fan amp is not giving the correct voltage output. Instead of 12v out on the output leads it's giving me 6volts, same on the blower relay, I'm only getting 6v not 12v.
I've read up on the power transistor issues with the blower but it doesn't sound like thats the issue. and I can't find anything on how to actually test it even if I thought it might be.
Thinking maybe a ground issue but I honestly am not sure at this point, any suggestions would help. thanks

First - If you jumper 12v directly to the fan motor, does it come on full? Does it smell hot?
One theory- If the fan motor armature is shorted, the voltage will drop due to high current draw.
The logicon rarely gives trouble. It's weak spots are the solder connections where the connector pins meet the PCB, and the slide control pots.
A little spray contact cleaner & some resoldering will fix it.

If the fan motor is origonal, it's probably got a lot of hours on it.
If it fails to start again, I'd suspect a dead (worn out) spot in the commutator.
That's the common end of days symptom for all DC motors.
Anybody have a count of how many DC motors there are in an RX-7? Maybe 12?

I had much the same 'fun' troubleshooting mine. I replaced the fan amp because of the 'failed' readings, but that didn't help. It turned out to be the power transistor, and I'd bet that it's your problem, too. The FSM was a total waste of time in helping to diagnose this.

I sent both of the fan amp unit's I had out for repair and should have them back monday since neither of them were giving me the right output. They weren't even giving the same output so I figure one's bad for sure. If that doesn't work I'll give the transistor a shot. It's just weird that it would be bad even on the blower I just put in because I know it worked when I pulled it out of my "parts car". I think every rx-7 owner has two cars, one to drive and one for parts. Why do we put up with this lol. I just want all the bugs worked out before it goes off for paint and the GP body kit. I have a feeling that's asking too much.
