OR Bloody door locks!!!

Yeah so i have this 1988 gxl and its awesome, however there is a mechanizum in the doors that make it so when i lock the doors then unlock them i cant open the doors unless its with a screw driver and from the inside of the vehicle. So dose anyone know or can point me where there is a fix for this or some advice? i make 8 grand a year and i barely make it so im really interested in fixing this my self preferably with spending as little as possible. Thanks guys

where are you using a screw driver to open the door???

Sounds like you just have a rod disconnected.
