Blew Belts... i need advice
ok... so i was show boating a little bit by a citco...
and I normally Check my Belts for tightness..
But it would seem the AC belt i never use Broke off Went and then Tore my A/P belt off and got Nice and wrapd around the E-shaft pully.. After Clearing it off of the pully.. I noticed for Some ODD reason the engine runs Smoother..
My question is.. with what just happend.. is it safe to run it without the A/P belt and will i gain or loose any power?
And why might it be running smoother?

Ok first, what do you mean by a "A/P belt" ? Power steering belt or alternator belt?
If power steering: Yes, you can go without it, but turning will be very hard
If alternator: No.
If the engine feels smoother, then you probably have worn out bearings in your idler pulleys or water pump depending on which belt you mean.

Any belt and part when working properly will draw engine power. Such as turning on the AC, it causes drag, which makes the engine have to use power to turn the item. Whatever the A/P belt is, the main belt you need is your alternator belt, which runs the alt and water pump. Those are a must! The only time you really you dont need a alternator if some cases is if its a race car, some run of striclty the battery, but your a street car

Ah air pump belt. Your car is an S4 so you won't lose 6 port activation, but your emissions equipment will not work.
Also, at high RPMs the water pump will cavitate since there is only the alternator belt turning it now. You should definitely get the belt replaced asap or use an aftermarket double alternator pulley.
Turn the air pump over by hand to see if it is smooth. If it's not, then it could be the source of the roughness you felt with the belt connected. I've gone through a few air pumps, one of them even blew the metal fins out into my ACV.

Haha, dude I don't know where you live in Orlando but you can hit me up, I have a few AC and PS belts that are in great condition that you can have as I will probably never use them again. PM me if you're interested.
Interesting, but two belts is enough to turn the water pump without causing cavitation?

The air pump is one of the largest demands of power for these engines ... HELL ya you are going to see a better throttle response and smoother acceleration...
However if you live in an area where emissions are tested your best to leave the stuff on the car and put the belt on once a year to pass the test...

The air pump is a tiny, tiny draw of power. The alternator draws many times more.
If the air pump is disconnected that essentially disables your emissions system. Faults in the emissions system could be the reason your car was running rougher without that belt. Proper procedure would be fix the issue.
The water pump will cavitate at high RPM regardless of how many belts are on it. However at higher RPMs the single belt will tend to slip, hence the need for two.
