bleeding brakes

i bled my brakes today and replaced it with DOT 4/3 and now there is a gap in the break pedel that doesnt seem to slow it down at all. i have to push it pretty far to get it start slowin down but once i get there it works fine. did i do something wrong??

probably.

do you know how to bleed brakes?... you shouldn't be touching brakes unless you know what you are doing.

yeah i know what i was doing. my dad helped me out and showed me what to do. but my break pads are pretty thin so im not sure if thats affecting it in any way.

Well did you make sure you got every bit of air out? How many times did you go around? you may wanna do it again to be safe and make sure it doesnt draw back any air.

I had the same problem with mine. I removed the ABS, replaced the master cylinder, and put in SS brake lines because I was restoring the bad parts of the car. Anyway, when I was done with everything, I bled the brakes for like 25 pumps each and I was positive the air was all out of the system. When I tried to drive it the pedal wouldn't even engage until halfway to the floor, and by the time the pedal hit the floor and could travel no further, the brakes weren't fully engaged. I couldn't lock them up no matter how hard I tried.

I went to kragen and bought one of those 1 man bleeder kits with the clear tube and the magnetic bottle, and I used that and could still see air bubbles comming out of the system. So it turns out I just needed to bleed it alot more and now they work perfect.
