Black/tint out rear tails? Anyone done it?

Well my friend is a body man at a local dealership and has access to all sorts of free stuff like paint/etc.

My S4 GTU is black. So I figureed hey why not.

The plastic if faded and light than my paint so why not refresh them.

We are going to lightly sand then down and give them a spray of clear coat w/ some black mixed in. It should darken up the rear tails a tiny bit and match it more to my paint.

I don't plan on painting it so you can't make out the red/orange signals. I want to keep it pretty legal.

Any thoughts on it?
If it goes well with my car we might do it to others.

Awsome. I wanna' see them done.

I wanna see a pair of S5's tail lights smoked black like that. It would be neat to see if it looks anything like the 3rd Gen JDM taillights.

ive done that on my volkswagens. looks really good. hard for a cop to tell if its not factory if you do a good job masking, just put as many coats on until they are as dark as you want them. easy enough, light still gets through pretty well

In the last two days I have seen 2 imports with black/tinted tails an new integra and an eclipse. Both cars black but the dint was so dark that it didnt really look nice. It made their cars look like a black block. If you do tint the tails do it tastefully.

Since I'm a Black S4 my tails already match the body but the plastic is faded.

Me and my friend figured it wasn't illegal because you see Mustangs and Camaro's with those FTO or whatever Tint covers.

I plan to swipe it a few times but I don't want BLACKED out I want tinted.
