OK big wing custom brackets can of forum worms opened

http://www.flickr.com/photos/12211689@N03/ here is my wing... the stock wing is covering those 8 holes to keep the water out for the time being. this car is a work in progress...wing was a birthday gift.. car is primarly for track usage but will see street usage. If im driving that car on the street I'm probably not doing anything legal.

nice wing, but wings like that dont mount up to the fc.. You should remove your stock spoiler and figure out how to mount it.

^^^That is how i had mine...but my wing had a slightly smaller base so the brackets werent as bulky. as for the first pic.....yucky. you mounted a wing that DOES NOT go with your car and now you cant open the hatch. poor engineering...make your brackets curve around the back so you can bolt the top of the brackets to the car behind the hatch and the bottom to the back of the car like above so at least you can use the hatch

well i see the forum stupid STILL EXIST if you looked at ALL the pictures you would see the hatch does still open... congrats opening your mouth before reading/viewing....and again i have 8 good sized holes in the back of the car with the stock spoiler off.. since the car is not drivable the stock wing is plugging the STOCK HOLES so i dont rust my car out... the car is getting side skirts and a facelift soon enough..... like the post says can of forum worms opened... yack yack yack oh yeah not to mention that car and i probably have more track time than the most of you... the wing is for function first..... im sure i said something about the car being tracked..... man anyways flame on ... i think i posted for the negative attention:-) :-) i think it worked... on with the STUPID replies like "you cant open your hatch.. poor engineering.. how about poor comprehension?

chill dude, only the douchebags are the ones that said to remove it.. lol

This pic http://www.flickr.com/photos/12211689@N03/2815301580/
just looks like you drilled into the hatch frame so we assumed thats what was going on.

You can fill in the old spoiler holes with fiberglass bodyfiller. Id suggest you do that, your car needs paint anyways so might as well knock it out, i know i need to do mine.

Edit, I see what you did, you pull those pins out to lift the hatch. Still kind of wack tho. I think you could have done it better. Spend a little more time to figure something out that will be clean and not rushed.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/12211689@N03/2815301580/ psychotic you are an idiot... "your hatch doesn't open" Thanks for telling me about my own car that you have never seen. Who would install a wing and then go "oops i guess my hatch doesnt work anymore after i did all that work"..... That pic shows a sliding lynch pin so you can open the hatch. You can stop posting your negative and stupid comments now.. just sharing my work.
thanks hypertek I was actually thinking about getting some kinda of carbon fibre plugs or something you know what i mean. Like a body clip? or maybe roll edged carbon fibre plates that cover the area where the stock wing used to be.. The car is not going to be painted for a long time just the nose and skirts its chilling out under a tree is is very dirty right now.
I like wings mounted further into the body of the car kinda like the FDs.

you could tape the holes from underneath, and spread jbweld on the surface to fill the hole, then sand and spread bodyfiller, then sand.. or fiberglass underneath the holes then body filler.. or tape, bodyfiller.. They are small holes, shouldnt be a problem patching them that way.

I patched my atenna hole with fiberglass but yet to sand and fill it with filler.. I have also done this on my old 240sx which held up great then i got rid of it. Its not bad despite what people say about it.

Is the wing bolted to the hatch glass frame?

That is the first time I've seen that. I would think over time, the rear downforce may cause stress or cracking in the edge of the glass and frame. When done like the pic above, the downforce pressure is directly applied to the chassis/body/frame of the car.

Most rear wings are done like in the pic that Hypertek posted above. Reason being (if function is your goal), you can replace the hatch glass with lexan and easily save yourself 30-40 lbs. I did it with my car and it freed a good chunk of weight.

Either case, its an interesting way to mount the wing. But I believe there could have been a structurally stronger way to do it. Do you have any access to shop tools (TIG/MIG, mill, sanders, etc)?

Rofl Ew says the person whose signature shows their car being pushed..... Why bother posting if thats all you have to say??in the spirit of everyones negative post.. here is a goodie for you http://www.flickr.com/photos/12211689@N03/2936049778/

I believe that wing will generate about 250lbs of downforce at 75 mph thats a low estimated educated guess using chord/camber/span/area/aspect ratio and all that and so on... I accidently tossed my paperwork with all the numbers on it. Ill just do it over. The wing is 62 inches long. I am going to have the brackets remade later so it looks less hardwarish. I think the frame can support the weight if not i guess we will see:-) the rear brackets are load bearing.

Im not a fan of big spoilers, but it does look decent, and i like how you got creative with the mounting so you can open your hatch still, the pins was a really good idea, and nice rims lol. I my opinion, it would look better if you could bring the whole thing down a few inches, which i know you cant do, thats whats stopping me from getting one like this.

The wing is the megan md-62 it is cheap very cheap so i figured i would give it a shot.. You get what you pay for but its all carbon fibre. I know that i will get some downforce out of it. the Foil has strange chord in some spots but i suspect it will work enough for the price. At 62 inches wide it will do something. I dont like the chokets (the wing stands) but one day ill have something made that looks a little better. I thought about the height i want the wing to be in the cleanest air possible but i dont want it too high, but i didnt want it too low either. I will be adding some vortex generators to smooth the airflow over the back end of the vehicle.. I will have alot of work to do to the front end of the car dont want an understeering beast. Like i said the car is a work in progress.

The wheels are from Okinawa Kakimoto N-gt. 17 by 8 front 17 by 9 or 9.5 rear

Holy crap that wing is cheap as hell for a CF piece. I wonder how it stacks up against the big buck ones like APR.

last time i dynod my car i was 303rwhp with 2.5 exhaust. I went up to a 3 inch estimated 320-330 then i had a side seal or something stupid go bad in the engine. Stupid thing is even with the car running like a 5 cylinder its still decently quick. I beat alot of porsche guys in my stock s2k around a track i really get them in my rx7.. and even more so with big wing keeping the the tail down......i hope.

Do you have anything to make downforce in the front? A big rear wing aft of the rear wheels causes lift on the front wheels. (Think of a seesaw)

Hey Dart,
Sell me your stock spoiler, we have missed you at the last few AutoX's. Hadn't heard from you since you were looking for a core. We ran out at Stroud last weekend, and had a great time. Look up your old RR buds every now and then, and the wing is nice, adaption to the vehicle is unique, and I seriously want your old spoiler if your getting rid of it. I can weld up the holes for you at HB. Shoot me a pm on RR.
