Big Problem with 89-91 AFM - please advise!

My '89 AFM has been giving me troubles.

At first, when it was really hot out, the AFM got stuck (yes stuck) at the most inwards it will go, so I lube'd it up and away I went, no problems for 2 weeks, then it died again, checked error codes, I was getting Trailing Ignition code, AFM code, and TPS code. Lubed up the AFM and away I went again.

So basically at this point I know exactly what is happening, the AFM is getting stuck at MAX open position and the car is flooding itself to stall.

Just on Wednesday I had it happen AGAIN...this time the AFM was not jammed up, but I knew it was releated to the AFM somehow. Checked codes again, this time I got the AFM code(8), Crank Angle Sensor code(33), and the Secondary port air solonoid code (3)...

Tried lubing, still not working, let it sit for 30 minutes, and BANG fired right up. No problems yet today.

Been to the mechanic, he can't find a problem with anything (I cleared the codes as well).

What I was wondering is does anyone know how I can properly clean the AFM or if it can be opened so that I can re-solder and clean the circuitry? Maybe re-set the spring?

The unit is $1200 CDN...so I *really* don't want to buy a new one.

Thank You!

Submerse it in alcohol work it in and out a few times, then let it dry. May only be a temporary fix until you find a good used one.

if your car is already prety modified you could might be able to just pull the thing out and use an S-afc to trick your engine into running properly but im not sure if they base signal from the afm to begin with
