which is better OEM or REMAN. axle shafts

im looking to buy a set of rear axle shafts for my TII read end. mazda quoted me $550 a piece for new OEM and they are on a national back order and could take weeks or months. mazda-parts.com has the same OEM's for $385 a piece, a better price but still kinda steep for me. and then there are some remanufactured ones i see on sites like parts-bin.com going for just over $100 a piece.

anyone have experience with the remanufactured ones? 7 year, 70k warranty cant be bad, right? or is it OEM all the way? your advice is appreciated. thanks

haven't dealt with remans on a 7 yet but i have on many other cars.

reman axles must not have any specs because i would say truthfully about 75% of the reman shafts i have recieved were **** quality and were binding up. you can keep going through them until you get a good one but it is up to you if you want to do the circus method of swapping them out til you find the good one or just digging in your pocket and paying for a new OEM one and have about a 95%(yes even OEM parts are damaged in shipping or missed inspection) chance of it being good to go out of the box vs 25% with a rebuilt unit.

those odds sound kinda shitty. i guess my other option which i left out would be to buy a used set from someone or a junkyard. if i had a used set are they easy to rebuild?

I agree with Karack. If you can afford new ones, bet them. If you don't feel like dropping that much cash, find a place that sells remans with a lifetime warranty. I know that Autozone doesn't have the best rep in the parts industry, but they have lifetime warranties on lots of thier stuff.

I don't know if they have them for RX-7, but I have to recommend Raxles.com. They ain't cheap, but they are high quality. I installed their axles on my Ford Probe in 2001-still going with no age signs in the boots. I looked at local parts places but their quality was junk and shotty compared to Raxles. I plan on going back to them when my rear axles go on my RX-7.
