Best way to keep Flywheel still?

Yes I did a search and didnt find anything to helpful.

I'm changing my clutch (this is my first time) and I have the tranny dropped but I cant keep the flywheel from moving. Aside from buying a Mazda special tool what is the best way to keep it still. Can I rent a tool?

Make your own out of a bar/piece of steel from home depot.

Just drill a couple holes to match up to the flywheel and stick a couple spare bolts in to hold it

easiest way i found, was to have a second person handy...have them hold onto a pulley bolt while you work your magic down below

Exactly what I did, but when I do it again on my fc, I'll probably just get the one from Mazdatrix. Since I plan on having to use it many of times in my future life (meaning, I'm sticking to the rotary).

i put a set of vice grips on the outside of the ring gear and let it push against some part of the rear housing to keep it from moving. Didnt scratch gouge etc the flywheel at all

If, you going to be doing it alot I would just buy the MT one, otherwise just make something up like Icemark said. Thats what I did, though I'll end up buying the MT one anyways.

The is a general purpose flywheel stoping tool(grabs the teeth on the ring gear), I think maybe snap on makes it or a parts store might have it. Otherwise you could just use a screwdriver or something to wedge in between the flywheel and transmission. I wouldn't use an impact gun, torque specs are there for a reason. Wouldn't want to snap a bolt or warp the flywheel.

I made mine exactly like icemark described and ive used it on 3 of them now, works great. Bracing against the ring gear isnt really the best idea, its only held on there with a shrink fit, also i highly doubt youll snap then nut, or the e-shaft no matter what you use, if youve got an impact gun, use it.
