best way to hook up autometer voltmeter

best way to hook up autometer voltmeter

i just got a autometer voltmeter for my tII so i can see my voltage the instructions say to hook one wire up to the 12v ignition switch where your key go's and a ground in the engine bay i was wondering if it is a bad idea to splice into the ignition switch wire i dont want to splice into it incase i get a bad connection then i cant start my car if theres any other ways to hook it up let me know

Pretty much any 12 V wire would give you system voltage. You want an ignition switched one so the gauge powers on when the keys are turned to the on position.

do you have any suggestions to which 12v ignition switched wire i should use just not the 12v ignition switch dont want to take any risks of bad power connection
