i cant believe guys who modify rx7s are talking about how loud a fuel pump is, lol

when a simple in tank fuel pump overrides your 3" single exhaust then i think that speaks for itself.

Rob XX 7 10-07-11 10:26 AM

i can tell you that the supra pump is very quiet, even the bosch 044 pump is not that loud inside the tank, definitely no where near as loud as the exhaust

I take it back, Venom pisses me off.

I was driving to work and my car suddenly died. it would re-start every few tries and then die again after about 30 seconds. I suspected my fuel pump died.
So, in 37 degree weather at night in a Walgreens parking lot (which was across the street from where my car died, I was able to limp it there in 30 second bursts which pissed off everybody around me in rush hour traffic...) I opened up my fuel tank only to find that the pump appears to be fine.
What happened? the ground wire INSIDE the tank fell out of its crimp so it was just brushing against the contact. This is why my car could restart but then the pump wouldn't be able to keep up the pressure and it would die again.
So I threw the stock pump back in and drove home. Lucky for me I can fix this problem for free, but for the record... Venom makes crappy products that will fall apart after less than 4k miles. I should probably get a different pump instead... but money is tight right now, so this will have to do.

Also, for the record I made 280RWHP with that pump, and when paired with 1000/1000cc injectors, that is supposed to be good for up to 400RWHP

Rob is right, i have a 044 in my car you can only hear it prime after you start the car you cant hear anything over the exhaust. I had a walbro which failed on me and went for the 044 has been a fantastic pump and strongly recommend it. It was a bit of fun getting it in the tank though but it is a beast.

Like a few of the guys have said if you arent after mega power an FD or supra pump are the way to go and they are realible unlike walbro. The only reason i went for an 044 was i was aiming to hit 360KW + and i dont think a FD pump can support that power not sure about the supra pump though, toyota do over build their cars from the factory.

I have had my Walbro for about four or so years now, but only roughly 6,000 miles on it. It has been running just fine for my ~322 RWHP set-up. I believe I'll try the Bosch 044 later on, when I need a different fuel pump.

I used Deatschwerks 300+ LPH High Flow In-Tank Fuel Pump in my 2g dsm it was awesome super quiet and pressure was always there. The price is not too bad either at $169.00

•Flows 300+ litres per hour
• In-tank application specific fitment ( none for the rx7's you will have to use universal)
• Ethanol compatible
• 3-year no-fault warranty
• Quiet and reliable turbine impeller (almost like stock)

i actually ran one of their pumps in my car until recently when it would randomly shut off and only restart after letting the car sit for at least 15 minutes. the pump was sounding like it was running but had a higher pitched tone, apparently it was running but i wasn't getting any fuel pressure.

somehow the pumps manage to hydrolock.

i pitched that piece of shit onto my shelf until i can look at it further or use it possibly for my injection test stand. it did produce the flow it stated as i tossed in my spare walbro and didn't affect the tune at all.

i will say it did last about 30k miles though. course the walbro i put in had 30k on it before i threw it in the venom pump's place... no issues so far. will run it for a while until i do the twin pump setup for the twin charger or switch to E85. the venom pump won't ever go back into a car.

aeromotive stealth one of the best pumps out now and its really cheap and small, Had a new Bosch 044 and walboro before but none of them worked good as the aeromotive stealth

is it the best because it flows or the best because it's reliable? it's only been out a few months, hence the real point of this thread.

i'm not 100% convinced it's durable, yet, even if it does flow the rated volume.

Rob XX 7 11-29-11 07:58 AM

I have buddies who have been running the same 044 pumps for over 5 years

i'd be interested in understanding why you rate the Stealth 340 better than the Bosch 044, (besides the fact that the 044 is not designed for in-tank installation).

how are you rating these things? What do you mean by they didnt work as good as the aeromotive?

For what it's worth, I've been running a Walbro in my S4 TurboVert for 6+ years. Running a little over 200 whp, never a hint of a problem. But if I did replace it, Denso would be my choice as higher HP is in the S4's near future.

dennis blackstone 11-29-11 09:07 PM

ive been running a walboro for 10 years now, no problem
other than flooding

Rob XX 7 11-29-11 09:53 PM

i think a walbro in a stockish car will probably last forever

once you start pushing more power thats when it seems the shit hits the fan and a pump's reliability gets tested

fc3s91 11-29-11 10:39 PM

I made 376rwhp at 14psi with a supra pump.

7slidesgood 11-29-11 11:34 PM

If I take the sheet provided by Deatschwerks their pump flows the following at 13.5V.
- 70psi 250 L/H
- 80psi 230 L/H
- 90psi 205 L/H

If I take the data generated by RC Engineering for the FullBlown dual unmodified Walbro's at 13.5V.
Official Dual Walbro Flow Test
- 70psi 375 L/H
- 80psi 300 L/H
- 90psi 234 L/H

Aeromotive 340 Stealth Fuel Pump at 13.5V.
Aeromotive Stealth Pump
- 70psi ~260 L/H
- 80psi ~227 L/H
- 90psi ~205 L/H

Bosch 044 Test from Jay Racing
-30psi ~290 L/H
-75psi ~267 L/H
-90psi ~253 L/H

Single Walbro test from Jay Racing
-30psi ~256 L/H
-75psi ~208 L/H
-90psi ~156 L/H

Hope this helps some people.

the walbro i mentioned was in a 450whp daily with a kenney belle boosting the voltage up to 20 volts. he switched to the supra pump for 500whp and gave it to me, it had ~30k on it, still works fine. so i don't think walbros are total crap, but they are quite noisey and draw alot of amps stressing the wiring.

it did however burn up the series 5 tank plastic bulkhead connector though, i installed a series 4 pump body into his series 5 tank, a little modified to lower the pump the right amount and swapped level senders. the series 4 pump body wiring is the most superior of all series including FD.

Use a deatchswerks pump. Quiet and very powerful. Its and in-tank. I honestly prefer it over an aeromotive because you can actually use this pump everyday.

Why cant the aeromotive 340lph be used everyday.... would it make the car ultra rich and difficult to tune the idle?..

just to add areomotive stealth failed as well, it just died just never to power on again dunno why.

h_block88 03-29-12 10:51 AM

as long as you have a good regulator it wont make it rich or difficult to tune,
lol who really drives their rx7"s these days anyway

walboro 255

get a meter that senses your fuel pump voltage as well!

youll blow the motor if it ever fails
