Stay within Series. Most people agree that changing series when doing a swap complicates things A LOT

Mazdatrix has a good deal on short shifters.

hIGGI also has one but the MT one has bushings that come with it.

Short shifters are rather useless anyway...There's nothing different between the shifter on teh S5 or S4 car...

Wow Aaron your posts have been so negative lately, are you having a heavy flow day? Hehe JK . Why don’t you like the short shifters?

I love mine. But it comes down to personnel choice. Then again I can’t complain I got my for free in the raffle at SS5 .

I personally just don't see the point... I mean, why would you go through all the trouble to shorten a shift ****? For that extra 0.001 second you save in moving it from one end of it's travel to the other?

Really, I just hate the things. My Insight has a "factory shorty" and it bugs the hell out of me. I have often though of welding on an extension, but it is made of magnesium.

Functionally, they will fit. This assumes you swap the shift **** as well.

I have a short shifter from MazdaRacing.com and I'm very happy with it. It came with all new bushings, inner boot ,bolts and a gasket and its shorter throw then the mazdatrix one. It hasn't rattled yet and it was only $169

Aaron it sounds like you've never felt a good short throw shifter.

I also think short shifter has not much effect on your performance or driving, if it's not a track car, 99% of the time is driving in normal traffic and it makes no difference whether you shift 0.2 sec faster.

BTW, my friend tried to cut the shifter shorter and it feels really like a short shifter, it's the cheapest method.

mattrx7N/A- How much was shipping? I am very interested in getting a shorty. I am starting to dislike my long throws. Feels like a row boat lol!

Do short throws typically feel a little more notchy? I've never driven an FC with a short shifter but my friend's AE86 is equipped with one and I didn't like how it felt since it felt harder getting into the gears.

Some people get confused with "Short" shifter. This means that the throw between gears is shorter *Not the "height" of the shifter inside the console. Just making sure the new guys know that before they buy it.

Yes I know that it doesn't mean the tallness. Short refers to the "throw" from one gear to the next being shortened hence less movement is required per shift.
