best place to install aftermarket temp guage?

What is the best place to install a probe for an electric temp guage? I don't really want to disable the stock guage.. of course it doesn't tell you **** anyways so it wouldn't really matter.

Or does it matter? Will the car still know when its warm if its disconnected? or is that done from a different sensor?

Can en electric guage read off the stock sensor? Someone please enlighten me
