Um, there's not really a "best engine" (to my knowledge) [I'm a newbie too] but I would suggest that you get a 13BT (2 Rotary Single Turbo). Here's a website that sell Japanese Imported Engines. You can tell them that Mike with the 323's brother sent ya.

http://www.southfloridatuners.com/im...c/prolink2.htm

Good luck on your search.

A built 2nd gen turbo motor is the best for all around performance. A 3 rotor would be best if you have an unlimited budget and your looking for a rare car to set yourself apart. And a V8, whether N/A or turbocharged would be the best way to get flamed on this board, yet be faster than 98% of the members here, and have thousands less into a car that performs better. While a V8 swapped 2nd gen can be well balanced, it still may throw off some of the finer handling charicteristics that you'd only notice if you regularly drive your car to the very edge and stay there. A 3 rotor swapped car suffers the same effects. In my opinion, the best engine to swap in a 2nd gen is a built half-bridgeported, high compression, turbo engine with a 60-1. Would provide more than enough power, with a nice powerband. While not adversly effecting the handling.

Engine swap could run anywhere from $500 to $50,000+. You have to give us lots of specifics about what your budget is, goals are, model 2nd gen and availability of free labor.

IMO, it's a 20B.&nbsp Relatively "easy" to do (versus 13B-REW and ANY piston engine option) and gives you super-car power levels.

I'm intrested as well. Should I just rebuild the stock 86 engine and run a single turbo pumping 6 - 8#'s?

Well, besides the fact that the Brew can support more HP, the wieght lost from your wallet should be good for some time in the 1/4.

I thought that the rew and the Bt were the same block?? I asked the other day what the differences were between the 13b-t and the 13b-rew and no one really replied. If it can support more hp then say both engines have the same turbo, and porting done; bout how much more hp will you get out of the rew?

The 13BT and 13BREW are not the same.
See the attached white paper written by Paul Ko back in 1997. The original file is in HTML so I had to convert to txt. I hope it comes through. It's good article IMO

Crispy

I think the 13BT built would be the best. When I say built, I mean BUILT. It can handle close to as much HP as the REW if it is done right. And, it would drop right into the FC chassis regardless of what model or trim package it had. No other engine, weather it is a 20B or a pisston engine, would drop right in without buying engine mounts or making them yourself.

If mounts aren't an issue, then I think over the 13B-REW would definately be the 13B-RE Comso engine. It has the LARGEST ports on any rotary ever produced by Mazda.

If you haven't seen one of these in person, and are going to SevenStock 5 this year, you will then. I will have one on display...along with some other engines

Well the perfect engine depends on what you want from the car.

Marcuss- throwing a rock into the beehive with "V8" words like that.....

..... don't forget the Buick Grand National Turbo V6 swap either..... he he he

Go to http://www.v8rx7.com and click on forum button

then go to V8RX7 section

There are guys doing carb'd 302, carb'd 350/383/406, Carb'd small blocks with NOS, EFI L98/T5 ('86-92 Camaro), EFI LT1/T56 ('93-97 Camaro with 6speed), EFI LS1/T56 ('98-2002 Camaro all aluminum engine w/ 6speed).

Also some really wild setups like homebuilt twin turbo EFI 5.0 setups (500-650hp), Turbo V6's (400-600hp) and I'm sure others are secretly being planned.

Mostly 2nd gen cars.... a few 1st gen's and a few 3rd gens.

Bang for buck it can't be beat.... and when done right will hang with a 3 rotor. 3 rotor cost can reach $20K+ quite easily.

400ft/lbs tq in an FC is unbelievable... and can be achieved with few mods to a V8. Very few 13B's even turbo'd with all the mods will make that kind of torque.

But then you will be swimming against the current if you do a conversion like this and make the purists mad . But in the end the power sensation can't be beat as stated already. Torque plants you in your seat.... not HP.

Wrong way around. The Cosmo's ports are the bigger ones, plus it has a bigger/better intake manifold.

hold off on the engine swap, save some cash.. wait for the rx-8 to come out, and then somehow in someway try to drop the renessis engine in along with the tranny.

250 hp stock N/A... wow.........................................
