best drop-in 6 1/2" speakers?
I'm looking for a set of 6 1/2" speakers that will just drop in to the stock holes, the problem i'm having is the 3 hole pattern and the narrow opening. What do you guys have stuck in your cars?

any 6 1/2 will fit, i think you might need to get some sort of adapter ring for it though, any car stereo store should probably have them. and about the holes, just drill new ones. i have apline type s's in there now, they sound good for the price ($100).

just about any will fit. and like he said, drill new holes. man my boston acoustics came really close to not fitting, i had to turn them a certain way so they wouldn't rub and then put some padding back there so it wouldnt buzz when playing.

6 X 9 where? This isn't an accord! ALL 6 1/2 are cool in the towers. I'm using RF but my problem is not enough bass to overcome the aftermarket exhaust note.

Thanks for all your advice but not just any 6 1/2" will fit into the brackets i have. I bought a set of RF's (the power model line i believe) and the holes were not only too wide to be used in the bracket but the speaker wouldn't fit into the cut outs in the bracket. If you guys are drilling are you also threading the holes some how or using a nut and bolt to hold the speaker in? About the MB's, do those fit the 3 screw pattern?

crutchfield.com sells those plastic 6 1/2 adapter plates.
Anyway, I'm assuming you have a lower model car. They came with 6 1/2 three screw rear speakers, while the higher models had the plastic buckets and 4" rear speakers.
I'm going to modify my stock metal 6 1/2 three bolt plate to fit my new speakers, because the plastic ones tend to rattle without a lot of insulation.
(note: I'm a non-audio guy, I have good pioneer head and two cheap 6 1/2 rears, no fronts)
