Question The Best Deal For The Mazda Rx7?

With rx7 prices skyrocketing since 2017 to an unfathomable amount Curiosity has me wondering what some of the best deals were prior? What is the best deal you have ever gotten or given?

I once Sold a 1995 Montego Blue FD3S Touring for 1,000.

I once sold A 1991 Turbo II For 500$

A once sold this 1983 mariah mode 1 for 350$

I have been given many deals on the club here over the years, a free arctic silver turbo II, a 2,000 fd and of course the archives!

..

In 1990 I bought a S4 base for $5300 with a salvage title, but newly painted and rebuilt at 58k miles. .. .

Today.. . .though

I don't know about deals, but this is what you pay for a running engine in a chassis today on craigslist in Santa Rosa CA.. . . .It's about right, as crazy as that sounds.

What's a running motor worth today knowing that getting one rebuilt is most likely a self endeavor?

1987 Mazda RX-7 - $3,000 (santa rosa)

I've sold a lot of 7's over the years and sold many at prices that would make you cry in today's market. I sold a 62k mil 1980 LS for $3000, I sold an 85 GS with 50k miles for $3500, I sold an 84k mile GSL-SE for $2800, a 96k mile 10th Anniversary RX-7 for $6000, an 88 TII that needed an engine for $750... thinking about that now just makes me sick. I should have just hung onto them.

I wish, if I could make it 2008 again I would!

I sold this mint condition 47k mile turbo II For 1,000.

Now I see them selling for insane amounts. Makes me wonder where the ceiling is? 🤔

Got mine (in fairly poor condition) for $1600 a few years ago, similar condition cars are $3-4k now. I would have a difficult time finding a clean NA FC for less than $6k near me.

Clean TIIs are $10k at least, a few even cleaner ones sold well into the teens. A TII shell sold for $4k a few months ago (not even rolling shell - just shell).

Prices have gone up so much that it made my (at the time) stupid decision to keep my car and fix it into a smart decision. Had I sold my car and waited for a cleaner one the market quickly would have outpaced me.

I count myself lucky, as I would absolutely not be able to acquire an FC today with my income.

The most fun was had by the previous owners of the RX-7 with their cheap daily drivers. Prices are still cheap considering inflation and $15 minimum wages vs. $3.80 in 1990 when cars were new. Once cars really get valuable people are afraid to drive them and they sit and rot. What fun is that? You simply smile less.

I figure a $60k TII has 4,500,000 miles less of smiles than 30 $2,000 RX-7's.

i bought my '87 for $300 in 2010. it was a basket-case, but i sort of bought it on a whim. i bought it as a birthday gift to myself and set the goal of putting it together for Deals Gap 2011. i still haven't turned a wheel in the thing (at least not under it's own power), but i'm glad i have it because i would not be able to buy one now. i just wished i had forced the issue and stockpiled more parts for it over the years. it stands as the cheapest car i've ever bought, so i guess that's something. it's worth means nothing to me because i'm a lifer!

I was sort of given an auto '89 GXL once. I'm trying to remember how it went down. I think I was buying the taillights from it and the owner said if I'd get it out of his way I could have the whole car (engine was blown). I don't remember what I paid for the Taillights. $200 maybe. This was in like the year 2000.
