Beeping/ No Speedometer or Odometer

I have an 86 RX7 GXL. Yesturday when I started up my car the speedometer and odometer failed to function and roughly 2 minutes down the road, a beep started to go off. All other guages work and the car seems to run fine. This process continues each time I drive the car.
Anyone know what the beep is or how to fix these guages?

The sunroof is stuck on the left side and only opens on the right until getting stuck. Anyone know how to fix sunroofs?

the beeping is more than likely from your power steering computer, as without the tach signal and speed signal it is going into an error code.

For the sunroof the search function found in the top right hand corner of this page, just below the picture of the car.

trust em on this one, it's the speedo cable? How i do i know? I just replaced mine last week after it came loose from the tranny and the middle part (the actual cable) came out.. go down to Advance Auto, i picked mine up for 20 bucks... however, i couldn't get the oem gasket to work around the firewall, I still haven't come up with a solution there yet.

If anyone has ever had to push-start their car you may rember hearing the same thing. Basically the car thinks it's moving without the engine running. Speed-o cable is the best bet.

OK, this just happened to me two weeks ago, here's the easiest fix:

First off, the beeping is your power steering computer. You can turn the car off (make sure it's in neutral) and turn it right back on, and that will give you 2-3 minutes of peace and quiet.

Go and get a new speedo cable. DO NOT REMOVE THE OLD CABLE HOUSING. Simply take the new cable out of the new housing and slide it up the housing which is already in place in the car. You will save yourself an hour and a half as well as not needing to remove the steering wheel and half the dash.

Also, my sunroof doesn't work that great, mostly because it is 15 years old... Get yourself a childs toothbrush and some wd-40. Spray it on the toothbrush and clean out the tracks with the sunroof all the way open. Now, bring the sunroof all the way forward, leaving it popped up, and clean the tracks underneath. That will help it, but odds are you are going to have to take it out of the car and take it apart to get it really clean... This will at least buy you some time.

It's your speed cable. If you noticed, the power steering stiffin's at slower speeds and just kinda stays that way. I have the same prob right now. Try www.mazdatrix.com. They seem to have a lot of things. That's were I'm going to get it done at (eventually). For the mean time, crank up the tunes

Just a thought, but maybe before you start tearing parts out of your car, you may want to simply put it up on jackstands and make sure that the speedometer cable is snugly screwed onto the transmission. See the transmission section of the Factory Service Manual for a picture of where the cable attaches.

and if the cables plugged in under the car u might wanna check behind the dash before u get a new one. and i hear silicone spray is better for lube than wd-40. just search youll find just about anything

That thread is why God put you on this earth, dude. We can put you to pasture now. Turn in your key to the men's room on your way out.

Seriously, that thread is a 7 owner's mini-Bible to attacking p/s computer whining. Give RX-7Impreza your love. He's earned it.
