battery fitment questions

im thinking of getting a optima redtop battery but i still want to utilize the stock battery mount location. Will these battereys fit the stock battery tray? right now i dont have one in my car and my battery is being held by bungee chords, otherwise i would measure it myself. Thanks -alex

I ran for over a year with my battery sitting in the tray, not even tied down. Worked just fine, although I don't recommend doing it whatsoever for safety reasons. If you just tie the battery to the lower tray, you don't need the upper box at all. Its mostly (from my understanding) to control an exploding battery or a fluid splash. The optimas are supposedly gel-cell batteries, which don't have that problem anyway, theoretically.

But I don't know much about anything, so don't take my word for it.
