Battery Cables
Okay so trying to turn on a new engine and have the hood open. I have notice that smoke is coming from the battery terminals. Actual from the wiring. So after I notice that went to the battery and one of the terminals melterd where the wire was. So why are the wires getting so hot? Itakes like 10-15 mins of trying to start the car beofre they get hot . It was the last time i tried it melted the terminal.

Battery hooked up *** backwards?
And or is the large GROUND cable connected up to the long outboard bolt on the starter? IF not on that long bolt, it should at least be attached to one of the transmission/engine attach bolts.
The starter solenoid should have one large cable on it, and that cable comes from the Batterys positive post. Another cable of the same size, which comes from the batterys negative side, should be attached to the starters long bolt OR any nearby bolt such as the ones the hold the transmission and engine together.
If the wiring did not get hot before you tried to crank the engine over I'd say the problem is with the large ground cable that is supposed to be attached to the long starter bolt. But who knows? Not I.

A starter will draw a lot of current through the battery cables. When trying to start a car for 15 minutes, I am not surprised that the wiring is smoking. Better try towing it to start, if it doesn't want to start with the starter. A fresh engine requires a good starting rpm, to get going. Sometimes a so so battery just doesn't cut it.
