Banjo bolt Pulsator dampener

My 88 GSL is leaking fuel badly at the pulsator dampener. I've heard of a "banjo bolt" fix. What is this and where do I get one? My car has been sitting since Febuary and I need to get it on the road again.

I looked in FAQ sec and didn't see any reference. I'd replacwe it with a new piece if it wasn't 150 bucks!

what would you do?

I found a PD in atlanta for 60 bucks, a new one at Mazdatrix for 150 bucks and then there's the "banjo bolt" which I'm researching now. I'm assuming it's just a bolt to plug up the end of the rail with an inlet for the fuel line. Correct? The only banjo's I know of are down in Nashville!

The bolt that is on the opposite end of the rail that contains the pulsation dampener, that's what you need. You can buy it from summit or if you have a spare primary rail laying around you can steal it from that. Good luck.

BTW, read and research before you make your decision.

Hey now, I wasn't slamming him. C'mon. I was suggesting that he really think about what he wants to do, ya know, pd vs. banjo bolt. It's worth putting your own thought into and not just doing what people on this forum suggest.

I wasn't actually saying exactly what you were posting. I was suggesting that he get a second pri. fuel rail and use the bolt that's on it. If he has one readily available than he doesn't need to order one = cheaper/easier fix.

I've been around rotaries longer than you think. Just cause my post count isn't as high as yours doesn't mean I don't know anything about the cars. It just means that I'm not glued to my monitor.

Agreed. Personally, I just did what my mechanic (engine rebuild) said was alright to do... put on a banjo bolt.

Again, personally, peace of mind > POTENTIAL problems caused by not having a PD.

$8.39+shipping is a decent deal if he doesn't have a parts car.

There is a thread in the archives that covers the banjo bolt debate. I suggest that anyone thinking of doing this read the thread and actually understand the purpose of the pulsation damper.

The "peace of mind" argument is always a weird one for me. People will spend way too much time thinking about the pulsation damper and not put a 2nd through into the 20 year old fuel hose that feeds it...

Now that's what I was looking for ... the 10 dollar part. If I had a parts car I just may have figured out to take it off of it. But I don't. Surprised?

Quite picking on eachother! The advice I've gotten is what I was looking for AND extremely helpful! Why would I want to put another PD on my car after all the work that's involved in getting to it in the first place and secondly having the potential for a fire after all's said and done? You know when it'll go bad... when you're 1,000 miles from home on the road!

Sounds to me like these things ought to be eliminated period! I've got an 85 GSL-SE and I think I ought to take that one off too and get rid of it before that showroom car goes to the junkyard as a fire case.

So thank you ALL for your input. You may have just saved my mint 85 GSL-SE from the potential problem I'm having with the 88 GSL. God bless all of you... even the ones that think they know it all and don't.

I didn't find it at Summit. Where did you come up with the part I want for $8.39 plus shipping. I'm ready to order.

There exist aftermarket (Marren) PDs that when they fail do not leak. However, they require quite a bit of retrofitting.

and yes i might be glued to the monitor!
i have no life!!...
teh 7 always wins!

you might be able to walk into NAPA and request a banjo bolt....just write down the thread and pitch size..it would be hella cheaper than paying shipping and handling for the summit part..

That is exactly where I'm headed now! Now if I knew some backyard RX mechanics in Knoxville I've got some work for them. Master brake cylinder on the 85 GSL-SE (have the part) and this leaking PD.
