Angry A Bang & A Squeak...

Last night I was out cruising and I saw a Boxster ahead of me so I started accelerating hard in 2nd gear in order to catch up. Well, about a second or two after I started accelerating I heard this loud bang after I went over a small bump (I know the road very well where I was driving at) and I heard this really loud bang or knock. It sounded like someone threw a rock at the bottom of my car or something. Well, I started freaking out and pulled over and I haven't noticed anything wrong with my car's handling...but I haven't really pushed it to see what would happen at the limits. Now my car is making a squeak everytime I go over a smaller bump...I know it's suspension related, but any idea what? I haven't gotten a chance to get under the car to take a look...

Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe you blew a shock to me, but its hard to tell without checking the bounce.

Well, I've suspected my shocks are going out, but this is kinda a surprise to me as I didn't really hit a bump hard at all.

In order to test for a bad shock I push down on the car and look at the rebound effect right? What is bad and what is good?

Good shock shouldn't bounce more than one time.

So push the body up and down a couple of times (not on the sheet metal, push only on the bumbers). It should stop bouncing the first rebound after you stop pushing.

You also shouldn't hear any clunks while you are bouncing it those couple of times before letting go.
