Bad Motor Mount- What can this cause?

A pretty broad question but I had a bad motor mount- actually it broke off and someone told me that because of that mount it could've caused the motor fail but not necessarily that one reason but one of the reasons to my motor failing ? or something to those terms- dont start flammin people now, just was wondering cuz when I pulled my motor, the passenger mount was done for!

what ya'll think?

depends on how hard it was driven with the broken mount. It's never a good idea to have your motor bouncing around in the bay.

Definitely not a good thing but saying it caused a motor to fail is probably a pretty bold statement. Age would be the main factor in the mount failing. Probably not a bad idea to replace both motor mounts and the 2 tranny mounts while your at it. The it should be good for another 15 years or so.

I've heard of motors w/bad mounts moving enough to destroy the fan and fan shroud. That would cause overheating and possibly destroy an engine.

I don't think thats what caused it...I drove the **** out of my car with a bad motor mount. The passenger side came out in two pieces, and that was 20k+ ago. In some cars the movement will be enough to damage exhaust manifolds, especially if it has a flex pipe but thats about it.

well it could cause numerous of things as we can see or can cause nothing.... but it could've been one of the reasons the motor failed cuz my car overheated which led me to believe I blew a seal cuz mad white smoke was coming out for like ever after I tried to start it for about 2 hours!
