bad aws causes puffs of smoke at startup??

alright so heres my problem i get greyish white smoke that smells "fuel-y" for like 5 sec during startup. i just finished testing my cooling system it holds pressure for a good 10 mins to lazy to wait any longer, no bubbles w/ bubble test and i also hooked up the pressure tester with no pressure & start the motor and see if i get a spike in pressure, pressure did not exceed 10 lbs even at operating temp. coolant stays at about 173F. so is there anything imissed in my cooling system test? the only odd thing with my car is that my idle wouldn't drop below 1500 rpm unless i press on the Thottle, my wax pellet are bad it wont drop the idle so i'm wondering if this could be the cause of my "fuely" exaust smell with smoke?? if not then what eles could it be.. oil consum seems normal with good pressure... i'm i just being paranoid? also another odd thing when i rev the motor hard with tester the uper radiator hose drops in about 2lbs of pressure? water pump? normal?

Sounds like typical unburnt fuel and either a straight pipe or a gutted cat.

Mine does it too.

When it's cold, the cat isn't going to burn off the excess fuel. The AWS is supposed to warm up the precat, but obviously it isn't going to warm it up within 3-5 seconds. As far as the 1500 idle, which I'm betting is what you're more concerned with, check the TPS, it's probably out of whack and causing the over fueling issue. If the throttle is sticking open, try cleaning the throttle body out with some carb cleaner.

Oh, and exhaust fumes are nasty stuff, try staying away from the pipes when trying to get the scent. Waft it over to you with your hand. Hopefully you won't burn your eyes next time.
