Automatic transmission problem

When I place the car in reverse to pull out of the garage the transmission will on occasion act as if it is in neutral. If you wait long enough it will catch in an abrupt manner, while placing the car into park and back into reverse always rectifies the problem at that specific time point.Also.I notice this problem occurs only when the overdrive is not being used and I believe the solenoid that controls this feature is leaking a bit and has been replaced before.Lastly,I am having new springs and struts placed on the car and the shop suggested I get the front end alligned. Is this necessary or more of a ploy by them. Thanks for your time,

check your transmission fluid level and the condtion ofthe fluid, if its bright red thats good, if its brown or shitty looking change it ASAP! but if you have the time change the fluid but save the old fluid and run through it with a magnet and see if you catch any metal flakes, if you dont then the tranny should be good and you can go from there

when ever you change the suspension/tires/rims an alignment is needed for proper operation. otherwise you get weird vibrations while driving and unusual tire wear.
