Automatic Transmission: Fluid, among other things.

Users of auto trannys...

What weight/type (Synth?) of tranny fluid do you use..

Keep hearing about people saying Synth makes for hard shifting... but they're most likely talking about manuals.

Since some people say redlining our engines helps keep carbon build up at minimum... Obviously this is a challenge for auto trannys..

Would flooring it and just running it up to around 115 mph once in a while help out?

Thanks

I heard its better to have backpressure or something like that and actually have torque instead of a free spin, but I could be wrong.

Tranny has nothing to do with your diff. Did you ever check the oil level in the diff? If it was low or out, it wouldn't metter if you had a 5-speed, it would still overheat and damage itself.

hmmm....i didnt know that, thanx for that bit of info, i got a question for ya tho maybe you can answer it for me, i put a 5 spd differential in place of the auto differential and when the auto shifts now it shifts hard as hell and i really dont like how it rides, do you thnik thats just lack of automatic transmission fluid in the tranny or the differential???

Also how would revs blow the diff out? The driveshaft accelerates at the same rate of the wheels, not the motor. The only thing I could think of that could kill your diff would be a clutch drop at 7300 rpm with a 4 puck clutch and drag slicks.

Still waiting for an answer to this question.

Any Auto Rex's out there have any experience with synthetic Trans Fluid?

Sorry dude, I don't know **** about synth ATF. I just use plain old dexron, work great. Shifts are always smooth no matter if they are up or down shifts....actually down shifts are smoother than ups it seems. And go easy on the hold button, I mean you can use it every once in a while to pull it up past 7K, but don't make a habit of it.

Slammin your **** from reverse to drive (or D to R) might blow your diff, but I don't see it happening just at highish RPM...did you slam it from drive to reverse at 7300 'cause that would toast it for sure Hmmmmmm. your better off with a 4.1 anyway, be glad it happened.
