My '89 GXL has not been able to shift into 2nd gear. I t will shift from 1st to 3rd and then overdrive. I had a transmission service and my diagnostic said my throttle sensor was bad. My transmission does not slip and shifts smoothly but if I floor it it won't shift at all. It won't shift into second gear period. Would a bad throttle sensor affect its ability to shift into second? If not what would because it does not seem like the transmission is bad. Please help.

I had the exact problem you do back in 2000 with my 86 gxl. You NEED to buy a manual set up and extract the proper power from the engine. I had to and got considerable gains.
