I have a 1989 GXL with an automatic transmission. THe transmission won't shift into 2nd but has no problem as far as slipping or shifting from 1st to 3rd. If I floor it (which happens more often than not) it either downshifts into 1st or it will not shift out of first. That only happens when I floor it. Any reason why my car will not shift into 2nd?

 

when was the last time the filter and tranny fluid was changed? could be that r it could be that the tranny is dieing, how many miles does it have? if it is dieing save up your money and do a 5-speed swap, its cheaper than getting the auto rebuilt, and the car will have more pick up than before, trust me....................
