My question is if they ever produced turbo model 2nd gen with an auto tranny? Their is a company on ebay selling some jdm engines with turbo, one of them is a re and ofeering auto transmissions with them. Sounds like a bad deal to me. I don't plan on buying, but i wanted the opinions of the great minds of the rx7 club.

 

Yes, turbo engines came with slush boxes outside of North America.

 

If its an RE - it would have an auto trans. Same with most 20B's

The only FC Turbo that came with an auto trans was any J-spec model that was ordered with an auto. In north america the only auto car's were non-turbo, all turbo's on this side of the pond were 5spd.

 

So the auto can hold up to the turbo? What about the gearing.

 

In stock form sure - but you'll never make it work properly in your car without all the electronics from the vehicle the trans came from.

I've never known anyone who has passed serious power through those boxes however, so I can't comment on their stoutness at elevated power levels.

 

I've never even seen an automatic T2. People just junk the auto trannies if they get some kind of JDM unit

 

Actually ALL 13b-RE's and 20b's were auto. The Cosmo only came with an auto tranny.
