Auto Rx7 ?

My friend has an auto...Works fine in all gears until u hit D or drive gear...It sputs really slowly and u can hear clinking or just bad noises going on...Is this The torq converter or the D gear itself.

Im no AT expert but Id say its in the trany itself. If it were the TC, it'd have problems i all gears, as the TC is before the tranny gearswitch setup.

FWIW I have an 89-91 AT f/s with low miles if thats his model car. They are hard to find used and expensive to rebuild.

It's ashamed of itself and is trying to self-destruct as all auto trannys in 7's should if they have any self respect.

If he has a header or has removed his cats, then that may be his problem. My 7 used to be an auto, but after running a header presilencer the added heat cooked the fluid and ruined the tranny. I have no proof of this but in theory it sounds good. With a header and no cat the exhaust on a rotary produces ALOT of heat and with minimal heat shielding on the tranny that may have been what did it. Just mentioning this so he does not ruin another tranny if that is the case.
