Well in 88 when testing the 88 GTU Road and Track did say," the RX-7 GTU is one of today's truly great driving machines, a superb balance of all the things that make a car go without sacrificing any of the qualities that make it nice to be in"

And my favorite quote about the 88 GTU (in the same R&T article comparing the 10thAE and the GTU):

"The GTU is the true 10th-anniversary version of the RX-7, and a worthy one. We'll pick it [over the offical 10th-anniversary] anyday".

 

I had both of those quotes in my sig one time...I love my GTU...the body sucks, but thats ok, its n/a, but thats ok too...its still quick, handles well, and I know its rarer than alot of rx7s out there
