Audio Power wire..

I was trying to install an Alpine DVA-9860 into my 7 which I had bought the shell with no stereo. Normally the wire that has constant 12V is blue with a red stripe but with my voltmeter it's giving me no reading at all. In fact, there is no wire in that area that is putting out 12V without the keys in the ignition. I'm assuming constant 12V would still read 12V with no keys right..So anyways, is my only option to run a new fused wire from the battery or fusebox to the stereo or is there anything I can wire the 12V wire of the stereo up to instead?

I'd like an answer for this myself as I'm having this exact same problem on my car now.

bump..I think I might go about wiring up the stereo through the firewall to the fusebox. I am a little hestitant as this car is immaculately original. If there is an alternative option to this, somebody please let me know...

If there's no power where there should be, the first thing you check is the fuse. Basic electrical troubleshooting...

The stereo's constant power comes from the 7.5A ROOM fuse. The interior lights are fed from that fuse too, so if they work, it's not the fuse.

im kind of having the same problem too..i got a harness...and i installed my head unit today...and it wasnt working because the Yellow wire (memory) is not working...so i did a dumb decission without thinking and put the power and memory wire together resulting in my clock not turning off...so i took it apart and i checked the fuse box all blown fuses were replaced but one thing was the previous owner had put some wrong fuses in the wrong place he had put higher numbers for the lower one but everything seems back to normal for the exception of my alarm not working...do you think its possible to wire a wire from the battery straight to the Yellow wire (memory) without any problems like draining all the power and not able to start? sorry this is a long one but im kind of a noob

Before i read any further posts, I found that my 7.5 A Room fuse was blown. I hadn't thought of it at first as the Audio fuse was fine but I thought I'll just check all the fuses. Got my deck working for a short while after that but it stopped working again. I had actually hooked up to the ignition wire to blue with a green stripe instead of blue with a white stripe. Maybe I'm going colorblind or something but it actually worked for a while. Surprisingly as that wire goes to the power antenna relay lol...Then, it it didn't work at all but upon regrounding the deck. All is finally well. And my clock works! And my room lights work! And my gauges work! And my taillights work! And my car is clean......Good luck guys!
