Question Apex Seal Groove -- can you sand it down for proper clearence?

Just wondering, there are some high spots where the 2mm seals are to let the seal move. The apex seal groove clearance spec is .0024-.0040".

After clearancing the side seals, I checked the gap in the apex seal grooves and found that 2 out of the 3 apex seal gaps on the rotor are too tight. All the apex seal gaps on the rear rotor are fine. By fine, I mean that a .002" feeler gauge can freely move with the apex seal in the groove.

So could I just sand these high spots down very carefully? What does anyone reccommend?

This is stock 90 N/A rotor, using stock seals.

I talked with Atkins and Racing Beat engine builders today and found that you can wrap a 400 grit sand paper around a putty knife and slide it in there on the rotor and sand it down. This is because I'm using new mazda seals.

My question is now, do both rotors have to have the same degree of clearence?

To have even seal wear, you should have close tolerances between the rotor/seals on both rotors, on all 6 seals. I would recommend making them as close to identicle as possible. Plus, the less there are "ridges" the less that carbon will foul up that seal as it builds over the miles.
