Soft top installation

Need help with the soft top installation.
The soft top on my S4 vert had been leaking water in after rainfalls. I decided to replace it. The removal of the soft top was fairly straightforward. My concern is installing the glass panel into the new soft top. Help in that regard is greatly appreciated. Additionally, does anyone know where I could obtain the rear metal plate? This metal plate is no longer available at the dealerships from what I was told. If anyone has this metal plate that’s in decent condition please pm me.

I just did my softtop 8 months ago. Installing the window was pretty easy by roping it in. What questions do you have about it? I did go to the dealer and get new weatherstripping for the window so I did not have to deal with cleaning the old sealant off. You might want to try Amayana for the metal plate. I have not used them but sometimes they have parts that are not available in the states. My plate was usable- just a little rusty on one end.

Thank you for the tips CJGerard.
I want to make sure of a leak-free outcome. The canvas needs to be glued and stapled to the frame first, right?
The rope used to install the back glass… what does is look like? length? Does it come with the purchase of soft top or do i get it separately, and where to get one?

A few years ago, a convertible soft top business provided a video installation of the soft top on their website but now, this business removed their installation videos and provide installation instructions only with a purchase. I searched the internet for a video or installation instructions specific to the rx-7 and couldn’t find something consistent.

I’m overall confident about the installation of the soft top except for the back glass because it’s something I haven’t done before.
For the rear metal plate, if I’m correct, the part number is FB67R1214A.

Aside from the glue,I believe there are some areas like around the targa top where a double-sided tap (stretchable type) is used in between the metal guides and the targa top. If you know where to get this kind of tape, I would appreciate it.

Also, I don’t plan on using the bonnet and so, what other suitable fasteners could I use in place of the Tenex fasteners intended for the addition of a bonnet?

Thanks again! 🙂

Hello friends:
I finally had some time and installed the soft top minus the glass. I couldn’t get the rubber to stay in place all around the frame. I’m assuming the rubber needs to stay without falling out before I can rope in the glass. Any helpful tips are appreciated. Thanks.

Hello friends:
I’ll post a pic after the window is installed. I now know what I was doing wrong. I’m also using 3M windo-weld sealer. What kind of sealer have you used? And did you put the sealer on the frame or on the back side of the moulding? Thanks.
