anyone a power antenna expert?

well my antenna was snapped when i got my 87 so when i got my parts car ( a 90) i took the shaft out of that antenna and used my antenna motor from my 87. this was like 6 months ago so i cant remember what parts are different. but the problem is, the antenna raises up and does not stop, it just shoots out of the car. what i would like to know is, what catches the base of the antenna to keep it from sliding all the way out. and also, does the lowest part of the antenna shaft ( the thickest section) raise all the way up or stay inside the alluminum casing to support the raised section. any pics of a dissasembled antenna would be GREAT.

The part that keeps it from sliding out is the top shaft mounting nut. It locks the shaft contact into the antenna body as well as the antenna shaft to the car body.

is there a piece in he nut like a washer that could have fallen out? and is it the same thing from s4 to s5? it just seems like it would be very unstable if it was just that little lip on the antenna shaft keeping it from falling out. but anyway, the black mounting nut on mine is to large to have contact with the shaft

sounds like you are missing the mast sleeve/shaft contact. It is on the mast, and electrically connects the mast to the body of the antenna.

i wish i had a picture to look at. i think you are talking about the little green box that clamps onto the mast, that is on there right. i must be missing something inside the mast or the mounting nut that goes above the body is different on an s5.
