Anyone notice the value of FC's is rising?

When I first bought my FC from a dealership they looked up the "retail" value on KBB right in front of me and it stated $4200 in good condition. That was about a month ago. I ended up paying $3200 for the car after talking them down abit because of some problems. (needed a clutch, had oil leak, etc.)

Well, a couple days ago I looked up the value again on KBB for private party value (which is always less than retail) and it said the car is worth $4290 in good condition. Is it just me or are the values rising? I'm not complaining but I thought it was interesting and thought I would share.

Edit: Just looked up the retail value, and it's only giving me the value if the car was in excellent condition. Value for that is around $6200. So in good condition it would probably be around $5200. So it is going up...

When i bought my FC, an '87 GXL in good condition was worth $3700. This was back in January of this year, if that gives you any kind of hint.

It either has something to do with the time of year or the fact that the next iteration of Fast & The Furious will be released soon. I'm guessing the latter, which is why i'm glad my car doesn't say RX7 anywhere on it except the floor mats.

I would look yours up again and see if it changed.

$4,115 for my 57,700mile '87 GXL in Good condition. Yah, i'd say it went up despite me putting nearly 2k miles on it since i bought it and ran the check then.

I wonder why my SE is worth more than your GXL?

The FATF mentality is driving up the price slightly.

Slightly? Around here their like Gold. One dealership wanted $6,800 for a GXL that wasn't even mint, WITH hail damage.

I suppose there has been a slight increase on some of the cleaner, lower km cars - since they are really becoming a rarity now.

But I think the FD will always overshadow all other models in the price end of things given that it was the last model produced (to date *crossing fingers* - hehe) and has the highest base value of all 7's.

You'll have to go to kbb.com and check yourself. Just click on "Used Car Values". Also, when it asks for mileage, you have to put in the chassis miles.

**** dealers.
They will try anything to get you to pay more.

I just got into a "minor" fender bender (not my fault), and GEICO could've totalled my '87 TurboII at $1,800 (bad paint) at the 75% blue book threshold.
So to an insurance company, the car is barely worth $3,000.

I'd HIGHLY suggest talking to your insurance company before sinking in lots of money into your car and thinking they will pay out in case of a total loss.

I agree that the InitialD wanna-be kids are driving up the prices.
It's insane that these kids are paying $4,000+ for a non-turbo???

My FCs never go up in value.

I destroy them, literally

Xept for the ones I drive. . . but those I put hundreds of thousands of miles on, so that price isnt going up :P

I have 'stated' insurance for my FC. After the TII swap and all the little crap, I felt like it was worth much more than they would pay out if it got wrecked. Plus alot more is going into it.

My 90 GXL/TII is worth $8000 if it get totalled. The best part is, if it does happen to fall on misfortune, I can buy it back for $100. Awesome.

Wow, i got a smokin deal on my turbo2 then....
Payed 3k and it is in excellent mechanical condition, needs some aesthetic work but damn. Heres hoping the value keeps rising.

If they're calling the FDs and mid 90s supras "classics" now, I guess that means FCs are definately old and popular enough to qualify as "classic" cars.

Daaang. You aren't just whistling dixie. I just checked.

$3,720 kbb in good condition, private party.
I checked kbb when I bought my car in November and it was $2,300 for the exact same car!
Even in "fair" condition (really lousy but driveable) it goes for $3,200.
I was wondering if it was worth it to pay $2,500, especially when later on I had to get the fuel pulsation dampener fixed for $350.

Really think the movie's doing it? The 3rd gens jumped to $16,500 from <$14k.

^ your not the only one but ehhh its just too fun to drive. i want a na miata and i could sell my t2 for one but i prefer the scary fast feel with the extra power opposed to the controlled fast feel

with taht being said if i get offered 4k for my car i would seriously consider selling. if i get 4.5k i would sell in a heartbeat (even though ive spent about 7-8k including car and maintenance, and wheels and tires)

On a side note, is there even an FC in the Fierce and the Fabulous?

F&F and general increase in the popularity of import tuning is probably helping, the popularity of the rx8 can't hurt either

i wouldnt complain if this trend continues

doesnt matter ,the kids who love that movie can't afford FD's or rx-8s, and certainly can't afford the maintenance, so the cheap and reliable FC looks like a pretty good option
