Anyone have storage bins removed....and no seats???

Well the question is simple. I don't ever use my storage bins so I was thinking of taking them out. I would of course make a new piece of carpet to go from the back where the spare is up to the front where they were previously. What I really want to see are pics if anyone has them.

I know guys all the time remove them for race prep, but I want this to look finished, like they were never there. I am holding off installing my sub and amp till this is figured out.

Thanks to whoever can help!

DJ

why take them out? They dont weigh jack **** and they arent hurting you. If you really hate them just take them out and carpet over the fiberglass support they are attached to. Better yet just find the stuff out of an Rx7 that didnt have bins.

I found a salvage '88 (for dirt) which had leather interior and the jump seats. I transfered the all the interior parts over to my '87 TII and it looks - not only fabulous, but - like factory install. Very easy to do, I might add.

Yeah I've also got a back seat, complete, but I am selling it.

I want more empty space behind me seats. That is why I don't just cover the holes the bins create. I would like to see what it looks like with nothing. Also the Corbeau's slide back pretty far and hit the front panel. I'm tall, so this is a big deal.

Mine are gone.

They weren't REALLY heavy, but they weren't light either. It was helpful and I didn't care about them, so they're gone. For now I'm just using the stock rear carpet cut and custom held down to the floor with nothing over the bin area. Eventually I was going to add carpet to the bin area too, but that's not a top priority at this time.

Pretty sure they never existed in my car, but just for the sake of reference (hope it helps?)

So, I guess you can say that's as nice as they can possibly look without em =P

I have an 86 base without and was thinking about adding them too. Do you have pictures, or can you explain any special steps in putting them in? I haven't even pulled up the carpet yet to see what's there. I'm afraid to break all those little grey snaps holding the carpet down.

Yeh, I once had a parts car that was so base, it didnt even have rear bins. Just two wooden panals covering the holes and carpet running over it.

All you really need to do, is pull up the carpet (and dont worry about breaking those clips, you can buy new ones cheap http://www.thefastenerwarehouse.com/...age/584919.htm ), remove the wood from the centers of the fiberglass, cut a big X in the center of the fiberglass, and then put the bins down in them. You dont have to cut a big X, you could just cut around the inside of the fiberglass and make a big square cut-out and then put the bins in, but with the big X and then just pushing the bins in, it will be a tighter fit for the bins because of the carpet wrapping around the sides of the fiberglass structure.

You really wont completely understand what we are talking about until you have a look for yourself. Then everything will make sense.

Good luck.

I never throw anything RX-7 related away! I still have the airpump and stock fuel pump from my old FB laying around somewhere, and I don't even have the car anymore!
