anyone have a similar problem?

I finally got all the parts to install a new clutch on my 87GXL, I got the transmission down and was getting ready to but in a new front and rear seals. First the front seal won't come out, It might be just really old or got damaged from the heat but it seems like the front seal burnt into the front cover and I can only rip little pieces of the seal and the whole thing is bonded to the front cover. I'm not sure what's wrong with the rear seal but according to haynes manual I should be able to pull it out with a screw driver but need to be careful not the damage the output shaft, I tried this but no luck. Is there any easier way to get these seals off without damaging the transmission
