the biggest difference is the slave cylinder and the use of a pull type clutch.

Would it fit if u change de bell housing and the other end of the tranny?

And would it make a difference (speed / acceleration)

I know there is a swap kit to put the FD trans into an FC. I don't know what is all included or what is needed to do the swap. Looking at the above pics it doesn't look like it would take much. You would have to swap to a push type clutch.

Great pics Rob. I think I remember seeing those pics on here a long time ago.

Here are the differences between the FD transmission and the T2:

The main differences are the taller 5th gear, the double cone synchronizers, and the baffle plate. In terms of real life differences, the only thing you'd ever notice is the taller 5th gear. That means turning less rpms on the highway and being geared to have a higher top speed. Some JDM FD transmissions have a different 5th gear ratio though. If anything FD transmissions seem to lose the 5th gear synchro more frequently. I've driven many T2 and FD transmissions and you can barely tell the difference between the two.

A T2 transmission isn't considered weaker than the FD and FYI the s4 T2 diff is actually stronger for drag racing. If anything FD transmissions seem to lose the 5th gear synchro more frequently. I think I paid $800 total to have my T2 transmission rebuilt (with me removing it) by a trustworthy local shop. It's holding up to 400+ whp just fine, and the minor grinding I was having at one point was actually just due to me using crappy gear oil.

thank you for posting the picture. I was told that the shifter location is about 6inch farther back on FD. can you measure from the bell housing to the shifter?

oh ok thanks. About 6 years ago I bought a FEED adapter plate to put a FC bell housing on a FD transmission. Look like the super now uses the same plate.

whoa cool I didnt know you could put a S5 tail on FD tranny. That means the FC speed cable and senor would still work then.

Just the opposite for the gearing. TII transmissions either have 0.711 or 0.762 5th gear ratios, which are taller than what's listed for the FD. An 0.806 is what's found in J-spec turbo FC transmissions, which means higher RPMs on the highway. 80 mph with my J-spec transmission and 4.1 rear end puts my engine at 3600 RPMs. After having used this transmission for a couple years, I'd actually prefer to have a 0.711 5th gear. The 0.806 is a little too close to 4th gear, and I find myself driving slower to keep the RPMs down and give it more of a cruising feel. Acceleration is better, but that's what 3rd and 4th gear are for.

I also have a jspec 5spd and 4.1 rear, coming from a 3.9 and us spec NA trans the difference is very noticeable at 80, especially when I was used to that set up for like 12 years

Doesn't the FD 13B-REW have a beefier front trust bearing arrangement over the 13B-T? Thought this had something to do with the FD's pull type clutch arrangement, so slapping an FD trans on an earlier motor might not be such a great idea. Sounds like a waste of time over the virtually same strength S5 turbo trans.

well today when I had my S5 Trans out of the Cosmo while I was changing the shifter return spring and bushing, i took the time to measure it.

32 7/8 the same as FD. I have always been told that FD shifter loction was about 3 inches farther back but this looks not to be the case.

Yes I suppose you're right, I did get that mixed up. It's interesting though, some of the Jspec FD transmissions have shorter gearing, and some of the JDM FD rear ends have a 4.30 final drive.

the speedo gear is in the same position on all turbo trannies so yes the speedo sensor will still work fine on a hybrid tranny like that. i also wasn't a huge fan of the massive 5lb weight they have on the S5 TII output shaft to reduce noise and vibrations and increase off the line torque, there's already enough weight on the stock drivetrain that makes the car run smooth, they aren't torque monsters anyways..

i mean come on, the clutch alone weighs nearly 30lbs complete, another 5lb weight on the tranny output shaft and then a 4lb weight on the nose of the differential.. that's ALOT of weight for vibration reducers and torque increasers.
