Anyone that had an Alternator act up Please READ!!!

Heres the thing. When i start the car in the morning My anternator powers Up like normal, when i turn the car off, and start it agian it wont power up at all, It never stops working when the car is running, If its not going to work it will not power up on starting the car, Anyone have this happend? i ran grounds so i know its not a grounding problem, i also moved the wires around it wont help.. thanks for anyone with any information on these.

interesting. Someone is bound to disagree with me, but I would run a relatively thick gauge wire straight from the positive(+) post on the alternator straight to the positive(+) post on your battery and see if that helps to "solve" your problem. I did this modification myself with 4 gauge wire after running a full ground system with 4 gauge wire that I got from a local audio store. Running the wire straight from the alternator to the battery ensures FULL charging power at all times. If it still remains a problem after this, you either need to replace your alternator, or check your regulator.

its gota be the regulator, Because it would power up fine Before then nothing, Is the regulator inside the alt? or outside? i have an 88gxl

Its inside the alt, check out the electrical section of the 86-88 FSM, it completly breaks down the alternator. I would just find a used one for cheap.

thanks 2lucky, thank spyder, Im going to try and get this solved tonight, I gota find a ride to take this in and get it tested! hope to just find a regulator for it, because im allmost positive thats the problem. I also ran a jumper from the alt to the positive terminal of the battery. still nothing, ill post more when i know what it is for sure,
