anyone ever weld their rearend?

ok my rearend goes clunk clunk whenever i let go of the gas and hit it again. or whenever i shift. so has anyone ever welded the rearend instead of gettin new mounts? someone help me out?

The front mount usually goes bad. You can just remove the rubber mount and use a piece of angle iron, etc. to hold the rear to the subframe.

you can just weld something in there but the noise will be horible. If the mount is torn just replace it and stop doing so many burnouts...

This is what the mount looks like:

One side bolts to the front of the differential, and the other side bolts to the rear subframe. You probably tore the rubber. If you use a mount that is all metal it won't break like the old one did.

the thing that has always puzzled me is what on earth is the sticking out piece with rubber block on the end for? am i missing something but on my car it just sits in the middle of no where achieveing 5/8th of fark all

the block thing

that block thing is a harmonic dampener. At freeway speeds the this helps keep some of the rearend noise down. We cut it off on the race car to help get the weight down but I have never driven a street car without it. If you cut it off let us know what happens...

well i have 4 diffs, so i have 4 mounts, 3 have that thing on them, one doesn't, and they all look pretty factory to me, go figure

I would think the oad noise would be awful witha solid angle iron mount.

Yeah, but you won't have to change the mount again. It's really more of a mod I've seen people use for drag racing because they tend to break the front mount alot. I thought that mine was broken, but it turned out to be play in the rear. So I'll get to change the whole thing...hooray.
