Anyone ever replace a rear 1/4 panel?

Not for my car, friend of mine's FC. Curious if anyone has done that, involves lots of cutting and welding I know. This quarter panel is pushed in too far to bondo or anything. Thx

I was just talking to a specialty body shop, they said that for a lot of applications they don't even weld the quaters in, they cut out the damage, leave a lip and use a product called "panel bond" an extremely strong epoxy bonding agent.

He also said that the metal will tear before the panel bond lets go! Also save problems with heat distortion as well!

Even a Panel installed with Panel bonding adhesive has short sections of welding done on it.

Cool thats about what I figured. Look what I dug up in my closet, an original Mazda Body Shop manual (circa 1986)

Hopefully the welding spots didnt change much between the s4 and s5.

Now its just a question of can I do it....looks like a lot of work.
