I beliveve there is a write up some where on this site that they did a cai by removeing the windsheild washer container and routing it that way.
One thing about that FMIC location would be you would have to cut into the radiator support it prolly can be done with some cutting and pipeing. Just don't roll through puddles.
It has been said they stock air box and duct is a cold air intake taking air from the front of the hood and not from the hot engine bay , so stock there is a form of cai. Thank mazda..

I like the write up posted here ^. My only issue is that im not a huge fan of being that close to the radiator or hacking the near the mounts. Justin has gone a different route (same idea) and i will probably be following. There are holes pre drilled under neath the headlights in the engine bay. they have rubber covers. Its where the wiring harness runs to the light bulb. Essentially, you would disconect the wires and remove them from the hole. Take a die grinder, circle saw, or plasma cutter, and you open the already existing hole to the size of the pipe that you are using for your intake extention. Route it thru the hole and at a downward angle towards the opening in your front bumper. Mount filter on end. You can build a shield, leave it a lil higher up to avoid as much road debris and water as possible. Once its out front you can do whatever you want with it. This is just another option in the Ambient Air intake. Best part is if you go FI later, you can use the same route for intercooler piping
