Anyone ever Fabricate a Rear Deck Cover?

I've been trying to find a rear deck cover for my 89 GTU and after seeing some of the pics posted for guys that have redone their own interiors I think I could probably build a cover if I could find some specs and pictures of a new one. I might could work in an rx7 or rotary logo into it.

So has anyone got any measurements or specifications for the privacy cover? Anyone have any pics that they could post of the hardware for the pivot points at the speaker towers and attachments to the rear hatch? Has anyone built their own covers?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

On the speaker grill covers there are piviot points for the hatch....the cover just follows the contours of the car and sits on the platforms in the back...there is a 10" string that attaches to the hatch to open it when u open the hatch!

Mazda sells the one for our cars, just buy it from them. You'll need some salvage or new speaker grills with integrated hatch hinge holes, hatch hangers, and hatch rope for the cover to hag off of.

Your carpet may have snaps for the rear of the hatch cover to bolt onto, but if not you can get snaps anywhere.

speaker grills that arent cracked can probably run you 50$. i almst paid that for a decent pair. you should really just make your own cargo cover and save some money probably.

I agree with y'all, I found out today I can borrow a cover from a guy that comes to our rotary drive-ins and use it to make a template. I think I can get real creative on the carpeting to do a custom rx7 logo or a graphic rotor design that would look great thru the rear hatch. Since my car is a GTU it did not come with the cover or the speaker grills with the molded pivot points incorporated into them. Might have to get creative on this support for the cover.

thanks for the input
