dam local store was out of redline water wetter so I bought some royle purple "purple ice" basicly the same thing.
anybody using this? it's been freaking hot here and I'm hitting 210F commonly just cruising around. hoping it'll drop a bit.

I have used both Purple Ice and Water Wetter with good results. The reason that some people do not experience a dramatic decrease in temps is because they still use a 50/50 mix of coolant, even in hot weather.
Water is by far the best heat remover. However, with straight water you would have 2 problems. First, the surface tension of the water does not allow proper heat transferance with the metals. If you have ever seen water bead up on a metal surface, you see what I mean. Both products will alleviate the surface tension of the water and allow more of a sheeting action to take place, thereby increasing the heat transfer from metal to liquid. Secondly, with straight water, you cannot adequately lubricate the water pump bearing(s), so you need the additives to accomplish this.
My advice would be to drain the cooling system, fill with water and 10% coolant, then add the Purple Ice and top off the system. Make certain that you properly bleed the system so that no air pockets exist to cause hot spots. That should cure your temperature problem, assuming you have nothing else wrong with your cooling system. Good luck.

that is hilarious, maple syrup, dog sleds, and mounties, thats all that we have here
ok just drove home... it's like 80F here which is hot for here... I was mostly hovering around 200F water and 170 oil (thermostat neck and oil filter block) but up a long hill cruising 4th gear at 3-3500rpm in traffic went to 216/190 at the top.
replacment brass rad, new upper and lower hoses and driver heater hose less then a year old. water pump, thermostat, and coolant only a few months old (old pump leaking at weep hole.) all plastic is there, upper and lower. as well as the foam.
temps will drop at idle so fan is ok.
I went out last week at night (1am) for 1.5 hours of montain highway fun. 4th gear redlines (couldn't pull away from a VR6 VW with NOS
) and never went past 200. normaly around 190. no problems there with cooler conditions.
the scary thing, going from 185F to 216F on aftermarket gauge. the stock one doesn't budge....

oh well don't think it did anything... still hit 216f and like 200 oil tonight crusing around... this sucks, everything is new. I don't know what it could be.
Is your radiator clogged? Like from the outside. My buddy had this problem and it was a bunch of paper napkins stuck to the front of the unit. We couldn't tell until we looked inside the bumper. take a look. Also remove your thermostat. Sometimes you get crud that gets stuck and causes it not to open fully. I hope you got the mazda thermostat. Because all others are pretty much crap.
