The question you have to ask is why? Spend your money making the rear wheels wider, not taller. That way you’ll actually get a performance advantage.

Would that NOT affect the handling of the car dramatically ?

so what do you suggest

16x8 front--you cant go wider than 8 inches right?
16x9 back--can i go 16x10 in the back?

the 17 and 18 inch rims look good! thats why i want them. im pretty sure they wont take away performance.

Well this is just my opinion, but I think that it’ll just look funny, unbalanced. My point was why spend money making the rear wheel taller (which will actually slow the car because of the heavier wheel) when you could spend a similar amount to get a wider 17” wheel (with more grip) to match the 17” front. There’s a big jump in price between 17” and 18”; you need to ask yourself if it’s worth it.

true, true! thanks nz for your insight. but the 18 in. rim fills the rear so nicely. ive seen it and it does look nice (the way the porshe looks). the rear of the fc's are pretty bulky!

but yoou have a good point! those 18in. tires gotta cost an arm and a leg too!

I guess I'm retarded to put on 18"s in front and 19"s in the rear.....
but I'm still going through with it.

I have 17's front and rear. With the racing beat springs they fill the wells rather nice.

i have 18" now. i used to have 17" but now i look at 17"s and they look small. the 18" fill the fenderwell way better. as far as handling and top end performance there "seems" to be no difference. if you go to a 225/40/18 your ratio will come down to a 4.09 which i was willing to sacrifice. drag racing that's a whole different story. No traction at all. so when i know i'm going to drag i just simply put the slicks on. i'll post pixs tonight when i get home.

yo Flak, my TII looks identical to yours, except for different rims and exhaust (from what I see).

mine is an 89, what about yours ?

oh yeah, about different size rims...

you can do it as long as the tire size changes in aspect with the rim size.

example:
front tire = 235/45/17
rear tire = 255/35/18

both tires will have about the same diameter.

next thing you want to look for is how wide you want to go, how it'll fit (if it does), offset, and price.

I have to agree with the sticking with the 16" rims for performance. There usally is a rather significant wieght incress with the step up to 17", and especially 18", wheels. Go wider not taller. Unless your just plannign on cruising around and not racing. RX7's especially the NA's need to keep any rotational mass to a minimum.
